Seasonal Detox (Rutu Shodhana)
Harmonizing the Body with the Seasons
Seasonal Detoxification
In Ayurveda, the understanding of the human body is unique, with the Tridosha — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha — governing its physiological functions. Health is defined as a balanced state of these doshas, while any imbalance leads to disease.
The body undergoes constant metabolic activities and is influenced by both physical and mental factors. This leads to diurnal variations in dosha levels, and external factors such as climatic changes (heat, cold, and rain) also have an impact on dosha balance.
In certain seasons, doshas can accumulate and exceed acceptable levels, requiring detoxification. Shodhana is the Ayurvedic therapy that removes excess dosha from the body, restoring balance. This seasonal detox is called Rutushodhana — detoxifying during the specific season (Rutu) to stabilize the doshas.
